Personal work. AKA: PLAY.

What I do with sand

The medium is fundamentally temporary.

Because of this, the pressure to do it "permanently" is off. Your mistakes become features. The wind and waves simulate centuries of weathering in just a few minutes. Even the frantic task of building a slushy sand wall to keep the waves back results in cheering and laughter.

Some of the sculptures are small scale "glacial till" pieces I created in my living room. I made a coffee table sand box so that the beach wasn't so far away.

Chain Reaction Machines

It was a book about M.C.Escher that inspired me to make my first "Ball Track". He and his father would line up pool cues, tubes, and gutters on piles of books or end tables with the goal of getting a pool ball to slowly roll downhill for as long as possible. After several of these "ramps" I began to add other moving features.

"You made a Rube Goldberg Contraption!" My mom said. I remember rushing to the library to see his absurd contraptions for myself.

Featured on Discovery Canada's "Daily Planet" and influencing OK GO's now famous video "This too shall pass" some of the videos in this post may inspire you too.
